Daily Devotionals For All Situations
The bible should be used not only as a study tool but also as "spiritual medication." No matter what situation we are facing, there is a scripture to help us through our struggles. Instead of turning to drugs, sex, or even shopping to help us feel better, we should turn to the word. Psalms 119:11 says "thy words have I hid in my heart that I may not sin against you." When you are feeling down, upset or betrayed, find a scripture to meditate on until that feeling subsides. Below are a few; more will be added later. Feel free to add your own in the comments if there is a favorite scripture you turn to when times get rough.
For when you
feel afraid and defeated:
- 2 Timothy 1:7 For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
- Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
- Psalms 34:17 When the righteous cry for help, the LORD hears and delivers them out of all their troubles.
- 1 Peter 4:12-13 Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed.
Joshua 1:9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
For when you feel like life doesn't make sense:
- Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
- Romans 8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
- Philippians 4:6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.
- Jeremiah 17:7 Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose trust is the LORD.
For when you feel alone:
- 1 Peter 5:6-7 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
- Matthew 28:20 . . . teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.
- Hebrews 13:5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.
- Psalm 23:4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
- Psalm 27:10 Though my father and mother forsake me, the LORD will receive me.
For when you feel tired,
defeated and ready to give up:
- Isaiah 40:31 But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
- Phil 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
- Deuteronomy 31:8 The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.
- Psalm 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
- 1 Peter 5:6-7 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
- Isaiah 40:29 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.
- Psalm 28:7 The LORD is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.
- Psalms 3:3 But you, O LORD, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head.
For when you feel hatred towards
another:
- 1 John 4:20 If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen.
- Luke 6:35 But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.
- 1 John 4:8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
- Proverbs 10:12 Hatred stirs up dissension, but love covers over all wrongs.
For when you
feel depressed:
- Psalm 40:1-3 I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD.
- Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things.
